1.Background
Ethanol(alcohol), is widely applied in many fields, such as food (from fermentation), medicine, chemical raw materials and vehicle fuels, etc. With the promotion of ethanol fuel in China, the demand for fuel ethanol is expected to about 13.57 million tons. But, the output of fuel ethanol is only 2.58 million tons in 2016. It is indicated that ethanol fuel has vast prospects for development.

Ethanol from syngas is in line with China's national conditions of more coal and less oil, as well which is avoided competing with people for food, has a lot of room for development.
The main technologies of ethanol from syngas are as follows: (1) indirect method. First, syngas is produced to acetic acid or acetate. Acetic acid or acetate is conversed to ethanol under catalytic hydrogenation. The technological process is too complex; (2) direct method. The technological process is simple, but need expensive noble metal catalysts.

Wuzheng Engineering (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. is one of the companies engaged in the research of syngas application. Since 2010, we have been engaged in the research of ethanol from syngas by one step, and have developed a new type of non-noble metal catalyst which has the same performance compared with noble metal catalysts .The relevant patent is being applied.
